Delhi Police to conduct 'general gasht' across capital as part of I-Day security measures

Delhi Police will conduct a ‘general gasht’ across the capital and its 15 police districts on the intervening night of Tuesday-Wednesday – from 11 pm to 2 am – as part of security measures ahead of Independence Day, officials said.

The special patrolling exercise will see heightened police presence on roads, with senior officers deployed at key locations to instill a sense of security among the residents, they said.

Police pickets will be strengthened and the sensitive locations, important installations and vulnerable areas will be checked during the three-hour exercise, a police officer said.

Police personnel of all ranks will remain on the roads during the patrolling exercise, the officer said.

The move is aimed at enhancing visibility of the force, preventing criminal activities and maintaining heightened vigilance in the city ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, he said.

As part of the exercise, police teams will conduct checks at the strategic points and keep a close watch on suspicious persons and vehicles, particularly in areas identified as sensitive from the security perspective.

The night patrol is part of the broader security arrangements being put in place across the national capital ahead of August 15.
