Delhi Police maintain vigil at ongoing CJP protest

Delhi Police say they do not plan to take action against the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar right now. Security remains tight as the protest, now in its month, continues.

Delhi Police took to X to debunk the rumours floating on social media platforms. “There is no plan of Delhi police to crack down on the ongoing protest tonight, as is being conveyed. You are advised to refrain from spreading or circulating any misleading/ unverified information”.

The youth-led movement began online as a satirical reaction to remarks about unemployed youth and has grown into a large protest over alleged exam paper leaks, including the NEET controversy, as well as broader problems in the education system.

Students, parents, and other supporters have been protesting at Jantar Mantar since mid-June, and the protest has now entered its second month. Police say they are handling the demonstration professionally at the approved protest site. On July 20, when protesters tried to march toward Parliament, clashes broke out, and both sides were injured as police used force and tear gas.

The sit-in is continuing under close watch. Security steps include barricades, a strong police presence, temporary internet restrictions near the protest, and the closure of nearby metro stations and shops in Connaught Place to keep order. Police have filed FIRs for earlier stone-pelting and attacks on officers, and they have warned people not to spread false information, like fake reports of protester deaths.

There has not been any order yet to remove or break up the main group at Jantar Mantar. Officials say they are handling the protests within the law and are working to prevent things from getting out of control or to stop unauthorised marches. CJP leaders, including founder Abhijeet Dipke, say the protest will go on until their main demand for accountability is met.

Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk is still taking part, although some people are worried about his health. The standoff has highlighted ongoing debates about exam fairness, youth frustration, and how to balance the right to protest with keeping order in Delhi.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as talks and security plans continue.
