Delhi Police crack Rs 1.5 crore armed robbery, 8 arrested

Delhi Police cracked a sensational Rs 1.5 crore armed robbery case, arresting six accused individuals and apprehending two juveniles after an 11-day search spanning eight states and covering nearly 4,000 kilometres, officials said on Tuesday.
The robbery occurred on June 10 near Zakhira Flyover in the Sarai Rohilla area when complainant Nitin and his associate Karan were transporting around Rs 1.5 crore in cash on a scooter. Two unidentified men riding a motorcycle intercepted them. One assailant, armed with a pistol, robbed them of two bags containing the cash before fleeing.
Police said the case took a dramatic turn when investigators discovered that Karan, an employee of the victim company, masterminded the robbery and allegedly leaked information about the cash movement to his criminal associates. A specialised team launched an extensive investigation, examining footage from nearly 500 CCTV cameras and mapping the suspects’ route.
The analysis revealed that the robbers started following the victims from Paschim Vihar and used multiple vehicles, including a motorcycle, a scooty and a Maruti Swift car, to execute the crime and escape. The breakthrough came after police traced a scooter used in the offence to a juvenile. Two juveniles were apprehended on June 19, leading investigators to Viresh alias Veeru, who was arrested the following day. His interrogation led to the arrest of Manpreet alias Twinkle and Karan. Police later arrested Manpreet’s father, Charanjeet Singh, for allegedly helping in the conspiracy.
Investigators subsequently identified two key accused, Vicky alias Ganja and Dhir Singh, through the Swift car used in the operation. After the robbery, the duo allegedly travelled through Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir to evade arrest. Police teams pursued them continuously for 11 days before finally intercepting and arresting them while they were returning to Delhi from Jammu on June 22.
According to police, Karan had been sharing the cash's live location and movement details with the gang. After the robbery, the accused assembled in Tilak Nagar, where they divided the loot before dispersing.
Delhi Police recovered Rs 1.015 crore from the accused and seized the motorcycle and scooter used in the crime. Mobile phones allegedly purchased using the stolen money were also recovered. Police said Vicky and Dhir Singh are history-sheeters with multiple criminal cases registered against them. Further investigation is underway.
