Delhi LG seeks traders' input on market encroachments, traffic snarls

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has sought feedback from representatives of major markets on issues including unauthorised encroachments, traffic congestion and parking management, while stressing the need to keep commercial hubs accessible and orderly.

Sandhu interacted with representatives of market and traders' associations from several prominent markets, including Sarojini Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Connaught Place, Mori Gate and Chandni Chowk, where issues affecting traders, shoppers and daily business were discussed.

During the meeting, the lieutenant governor also sought first-hand feedback on the effectiveness of the "Jan Sunwai" being conducted by the Delhi Police at police stations across the city. He said direct interaction with traders and residents was important to assess whether public grievances relating to safety, traffic, encroachments and other local issues were being addressed promptly.

The representatives raised concerns regarding encroachments, traffic snarls and parking arrangements in busy commercial areas, according to a statement issued by the lieutenant governor's office.

Sandhu emphasised the need for strict enforcement against violations, while also calling for better urban planning and civic arrangements to address recurring problems in the markets.

He said Delhi's major commercial hubs play an important role in the city's economy, and stressed that their accessibility, cleanliness, pedestrian spaces and overall appeal should be maintained.

The lieutenant governor also underlined the importance of walkability, smooth traffic movement and disciplined parking, saying preserving the character and vibrancy of Delhi's markets was part of the broader vision of a developed Delhi.

He called for continued engagement between market associations and authorities to find practical solutions to the problems faced by traders and consumers.
