Delhi Child Rape-Murder Case: Cab driver waited 45 minutes to kidnap sleeping 10-Year-Old, says police

The accused in the rape and murder of a 10-year-old girl in Delhi allegedly waited for around 45 minutes before abducting the child from a pavement where she was sleeping beside her family, police said during the investigation.
According to investigators, the accused, a cab driver, kept watch on the family and allegedly waited until the girl moved away from her mother in her sleep before picking her up. Police said the incident occurred in the Mehrauli area.
The accused allegedly took the child away in his vehicle before sexually assaulting and killing her. The body was later recovered, following which police launched an intensive investigation.
Officials said CCTV footage, GPS data and other digital evidence helped trace the accused, who was arrested within hours. Forensic teams have also collected evidence from the vehicle and the crime scene, which is being examined.
Delhi Police said the investigation is underway and all aspects of the case are being probed. The incident has prompted renewed discussions on strengthening the verification process for commercial drivers and enhancing child safety measures.
