Three men posing as policemen allegedly rape 16-year-old in Delhi park
Three men allegedly posing as policemen raped a 16-year-old girl in a park in Southeast Delhi, police said.
The incident took place on Monday evening after the girl visited Kalkaji Mandir with her 17-year-old male friend. At around 7.30 pm, after leaving the temple, the two went for a walk in a nearby park.
Police said three men, aged between 25 and 30, approached them and claimed to be policemen. The men questioned the teenagers about where they had been and threatened them with legal action before allegedly assaulting the girl. They then fled the area.
A PCR call was made at around 8.45 pm, following which police reached the spot and took the girl for a medical examination. A case was subsequently registered under relevant provisions of the POCSO Act.
According to the girl's statement to police, one of the accused restrained her male friend while the other two allegedly took turns assaulting her.
The girl was medically examined at AIIMS. Police registered a case under charges related to gang rape of a woman under 18 years of age, criminal conspiracy, voluntarily causing grievous hurt and criminal intimidation. Relevant provisions of the POCSO Act were also invoked.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Vinit Kumar said teams had been formed to trace the accused.
Early on Tuesday morning, a Special Staff team from Southeast district, led by Inspector Rajender Dagar, received information that one of the accused, identified as Asif, was near Amar Colony. Police said they laid a trap and intercepted him.
According to police, Asif allegedly fired three rounds when the team tried to apprehend him. Despite being asked to surrender, he allegedly continued firing, with one bullet hitting the bulletproof jacket of Head Constable Rajesh.
Police said Rajesh fired two rounds in self-defence, one of which struck Asif in his right leg.
Asif was taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for treatment. Police said efforts were underway to apprehend the other two accused. (with inputs from media organisations)
