Cop killed in terrorist attack in Jammu & Kashmir's Anantnag

 

A policeman was killed in a terrorist attack in Anantnag, J&K on Wednesday, PTI reported.

The incident occurred around 12:30 pm at Lal Chowk. According to reports, a bike-borne terrorist opened fire and then fled the scene while gunshots caused panic amongst the locals. Ashiq Hussain, a 35-year-old head constable on Amarnath yatra security duty, was injured and rushed to the Government Medical College hospital in Anantnag. Tragically he was declared dead on arrival.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched an operation to apprehend the assailants.

The Resistance Front (TRF), a shadow organisation of Lashkar-e-Toiba, claimed responsibility for the attack via social media. Security forces are heavily deployed in Anantnag town during the ongoing Amarnath Yatra. The Yatra remains suspended for the last four days due to inclement weather in Jammu and Kashmir.
