Congress alleges 'one district, one mafia' model under Adityanath government
The Congress on Thursday attacked the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh over the state's law and order situation, alleging that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has created a "one district, one mafia" model in the state.
The opposition party alleged that the nexus between criminals and those in power was particularly affecting Dalits, victims and other vulnerable sections.
AICC in-charge for Uttar Pradesh Rajendra Pal Gautam claimed the state witnesses an average of nine murders, 10 attempted murders, nine rapes, 33 kidnappings and around 235 violent crimes every day.
He also referred to recent observations by the Supreme Court and the Allahabad High Court concerning the functioning of the Uttar Pradesh Police, claiming they reflected the "anarchy prevailing under BJP rule" in the state.
Congress leader Abhay Dubey alleged that criminals had been given such protection under the Adityanath government that they were "harassing the public openly".
"Crimes such as murder, robbery, and rape are at their peak in Uttar Pradesh. The state records the highest number of acid attacks on daughters," he claimed.
Dubey alleged that Adityanath had established an "one district, one mafia" model and further claimed that criminals belonging to a particular caste were being shielded.
"Today, the people of Uttar Pradesh are asking Yogi Adityanath: how long will this reign of terror continue?" Dubey said.
He said the alleged situation was the reason the Supreme Court and Allahabad High Court had made stern observations regarding the functioning of the state police.
Congress Lok Sabha member Imran Masood also targeted the BJP government, alleging that "only hatred is being spread" in Uttar Pradesh.
"The talk here is not about uniting, but only about dividing," he said.
Referring to a remark attributed to Adityanath about "showing people the other world", which Masood interpreted as implying death, the Congress leader questioned what could be expected from others when the chief minister himself used such language.
"This is arrogance, and people need to understand it," Masood said.
