Congress faces desertions in Assam

Former Assam Congress chief Bhupen Kumar Borah on Sunday joined the ruling BJP in the presence of its State unit president Dilip Saikia at the Assam BJP headquarters ‘Vajpayee Bhawan’ in Guwahati. Hours after joining the BJP, Borah was inducted into the party’s State Executive Committee.

Along with him, former Congress leaders Sanju Bora, Rajesh Kumar Joshi, Kangkan Das, Gagan Chandra Bora and over a dozen other workers of the Opposition party joined the BJP. Borah had resigned on February 16 amid high drama. The Congress high command did not accept his resignation while senior leaders rushed to his residence. Later, Rahul Gandhi too spoke with him.
