CM Yogi launches 35 crore sapling drive, calls it a tribute to mother earth

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath launched the 'Maha Vriksharopan 2026' campaign on Saturday, describing the plantation drive as a major public initiative to honour Mother Earth. Under the campaign, the state aims to plant 35 crore saplings in a single day as part of the nationwide 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative, which encourages citizens to plant a tree in their mother's name.
Launching the campaign from Gorakhpur, CM Yogi also inaugurated the Holy Triveni Plantation and Development Garden. During the event, he distributed certificates to farmers under the Carbon Credit Scheme, highlighting the government's efforts to promote sustainable agriculture alongside environmental conservation.
He called on citizens, students, farmers and organisations to actively participate in the drive and help increase the state's green cover.
The Uttar Pradesh government says the plantation campaign is part of its long-term strategy to strengthen environmental protection, combat climate change and encourage public participation in conservation efforts. The initiative also aligns with the state's broader goal of expanding forest and tree cover while promoting sustainable development.
