CJP to function as pressure group for now, says founder Abhijeet Dipke

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Wednesday, Aug 5, said the organisation would function as a pressure group for now, describing it as the need of the hour.

Speaking ahead of the party's core committee meeting, Dipke said the CJP would focus on raising public issues and rebuilding trust in institutions.

He said discussions at the meeting would centre on declining public confidence in institutions such as the media and the judiciary, besides issues including ethanol-blended fuel and unemployment.

"For now, CJP will be a pressure group, as that is what India needs," Dipke said.

Chief spokesperson Saurav Das said activist Sonam Wangchuk would continue as the party's mentor and that the CJP would seek his guidance.

Das said the party was pressing for the withdrawal of FIRs against students who participated in recent protests over the alleged NEET paper leak and other examination irregularities.

"We are talking with government representatives on this issue," he said.

The party is also working to provide legal and medical assistance to students injured during the protests, Das added.

Dipke returned from the United States in June to lead protests over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak. The campaign later expanded to several cities and culminated in demonstrations that turned violent in some places, prompting police action and the registration of cases against protesters.
