CISF holds blood donation drive at NHCC Hospital in Mahipalpur
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), in coordination with the Blood Centre, Main Hospital, AIIMS, Delhi, organised a mega voluntary blood donation drive at the CISF NHCC Hospital in Mahipalpur on Wednesday.
The drive was inaugurated at 11 am by Praveer Ranjan, IPS, Director General, CISF, who led by example by voluntarily donating blood. His participation encouraged senior officers and personnel of the Force to join the initiative. Senior officers, including Inspector General Shri Navajyoti Gogoi, IG Smt. Sonia Narang and IG Vinay Kajla, also donated blood during the drive.
The event was attended by Shri Vijay Prakash, IPS, ADG (HQrs), Binita Thakur, IPS, ADG (Airports), and Shalini Tiwari, Director Medical, CISF.
The AIIMS team coordinating the camp was led by Poonam Kaushik, HOD, Blood Centre, Main Hospital, AIIMS, Delhi, and Anju AS, Medical Social Welfare Officer, along with the medical team.
Around 500 CISF personnel donate blood
Nearly 500 CISF personnel participated in the voluntary blood donation drive, reflecting the Force's commitment to public service and community welfare beyond its core security responsibilities.
The participation included personnel from different ranks, with senior officers and jawans coming forward to contribute to the cause.
The initiative assumes significance amid the reported shortage of blood in the national capital. Delhi's daily requirement is approximately 1,400 units of blood, while around 960 units are currently being made available, resulting in a deficit of nearly 440 units every day.
With the growing population and increasing number of medical and surgical procedures, the demand for blood continues to rise. Since there is no artificial substitute for human blood, voluntary donation remains essential to maintaining adequate supplies and saving patients in critical need.
DG CISF calls for greater participation
Addressing the gathering, DG CISF Praveer Ranjan appreciated the voluntary participation of CISF personnel and said that members of a uniformed force should take the lead in initiatives aimed at serving society.
He emphasised that such blood donation drives should continue in the future with even greater participation. The DG also expressed his gratitude to AIIMS, New Delhi, for its cooperation in organising and facilitating the camp.
CISF and AIIMS jointly appealed to members of the public to contribute towards meeting the critical requirement for blood by donating themselves, encouraging friends and colleagues to donate, and becoming regular voluntary blood donors.
As a gesture of appreciation, DG CISF Praveer Ranjan presented a memento to Dr. Poonam Kaushik in recognition of the support extended by the AIIMS team.
The visiting AIIMS doctors, in return, presented saplings to the Director General and Additional Director General (HQrs) as a token of goodwill. The saplings symbolised life and the spirit of collaboration between the two institutions.
