Chhattisgarh rains flood bordering Gadchiroli in Maharashtra; 525 people shifted
Gadchiroli, Sep 27 (PTI) At least 525 persons from Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district have been shifted to safer places after heavy rains over the last three days in neighbouring Chhattisgarh caused flooding in residential areas, roads and highways here, officials said on Sunday.
Two national highways and a state highway passing through Bhamragadh in the district remained closed due to floodwaters on Sunday, they said.
An ailing girl from a residential school was shifted to a primary health centre with the help of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), as per the officials.
Several parts of Chhattisgarh received heavy rains over the past few days, inundating low-lying areas, swelling rivers and streams, disrupting road connectivity and creating flood-like situations, particularly in the Bastar region.
The rains also caused flooding in the neighbouring Bhamragadh area of bordering Gadchiroli district in Maharashtra.
The local administration shifted nearly 525 residents to safer places over the last two days, an official from the district administration said.
An ailing girl from Binagonda Ashram School in Bhamragadh was shifted across the Gundenur nala and admitted to the primary health centre at Laheri in the district with the help of the SDRF.
Although water iss subsiding, the district administration has urged people living along riverbanks and low-lying areas to remain alert, follow local authorities' instructions, and avoid travelling on inundated routes.
