Chennamma Deve Gowda cremated with State Honours in Hassan

The last rites of Chennamma Deve Gowda, wife of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, were performed with full state honours at the foothills of Ranganathaswamy Betta in Mavinakere, Hassan district, on Sunday. Family members, political leaders and hundreds of supporters gathered to pay their final respects.
Chennamma passed away on Saturday in Bengaluru after a prolonged illness. Her mortal remains were kept at the family's residence in Bengaluru before being taken to her native Haradanahalli in Hassan district, where people from across the state paid homage.
The funeral was attended by former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, senior members of the Janata Dal (Secular), political leaders and local residents. The ceremony was conducted according to family traditions at the foothills of Ranganathaswamy Betta in Mavinakere.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and several national leaders had earlier expressed condolences over Chennamma's demise, remembering her for her quiet support to Deve Gowda throughout his political journey.
Chennamma was widely regarded as the pillar of the Deve Gowda family, standing beside the former Prime Minister through decades of public life while remaining away from active politics. She is survived by her husband, children and extended family.
