Bus plunges into ditch on Chennai-Tiruchirappalli NH, traffic hit for two hours

Ulundurpet, October 5: A woman trapped in a private bus was pulled out alive after a three-hour rescue operation on Monday, when the Madurai-bound vehicle from Chennai ran off the highway and overturned in a ditch near Paathur. About 20 passengers were injured, police said.

The bus veered off the road and overturned. Emergency personnel and local authorities rushed to the spot and, after a prolonged effort, freed the trapped woman.

All the injured were taken to the Ulundurpet Government Hospital for treatment, officials said.

The accident brought traffic on the busy Chennai-Tiruchirappalli National Highway to a halt for around two hours, until the stretch was cleared.

Thirunavalur police have registered a case and are looking into how the accident happened.
