Centre approves Rs 14,300 crore Budget for Puducherry

The Union Home Ministry has conveyed the Centre’s approval of the Puducherry Government’s proposal for a Rs 14,300 crore Budget for the fiscal 2026-2027.
In a letter to the Chief Secretary of the Puducherry administration on Monday, the Under Secretary to the Home Department said the proposal was examined in consultation with the Finance Ministry.
He said the President of India had accordingly approved the laying of the annual financial statement for 2026-2027 before the Legislative Assembly of Puducherry.
The AINRC-Bharatiya Janata Party coalition Government was formed in May, in the wake of the Assembly polls on April 9. The Assembly is likely to meet later this month, when the budget for the new fiscal year will be presented by Chief Minister N Rangasamy, official sources said.
The election of the Speaker is likely to be held before the session commences, sources said. AIADMK legislator A Anbalagan is presently the pro tem Speaker of the House.
The session would begin with the customary address by the Lieutenant Governor.
