Capital on high alert ahead of Parliament Session, CJP march
The Delhi Police has stepped up security across the Capital ahead of the Monsoon Session of the Parliament and the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) planned march on July 20.
A senior police official said, “We are determined not to allow any unauthorised march towards the high-security zone.” The CJP has not received permission for the march. Several entry points in New Delhi, Central Delhi, and parts of North Delhi are now fortified as high-security zones with multiple barricades, increased surveillance, anti-sabotage checks, and constant patrolling. Police sources said on Sunday that more officers have been deployed, barricades have been strengthened at several spots and vehicle checks are stricter at all main entry points.
These security steps are common during Parliament sessions, when more activity from various groups is expected in the Capital.
A senior police source described the operation: “Elaborate preventive arrangements have been made to ensure law and order during the Parliament session. Every vehicle entering the New Delhi district is being thoroughly checked. Additional pickets have been set up at strategic locations and reserve forces have been kept on standby. CCTV surveillance has also been intensified across sensitive areas.” Security is tighter around Jantar Mantar, Parliament Street, Central Vista, Connaught Place, Shankar Chowk and other important sites.
These steps follow new developments at Jantar Mantar, where CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke is still on an indefinite hunger strike. On Saturday, activist Sonam Wangchuk was shifted by the Delhi Police to Safdarjung Hospital. From the hospital, Wangchuk called on supporters to join the July 20 march.
Police have reiterated that all protests must follow the law and that no unauthorised gatherings will be allowed in high-security areas.
Authorities are monitoring the situation to prevent escalation and have arranged for medical support if necessary. Police have stated that measures are in place to maintain order and security in the Capital.
