Calcutta High Court dismisses PIL on mosque loudspeakers

The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday dismissed a PIL, which alleged that loudspeakers were being removed from mosques in parts of West Bengal.
A division bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty dismissed the petition, holding that there was no written instruction by the state authorities.
Senior advocate Kalyan Banerjee, who moved the petition, had alleged that loudspeakers were being removed from mosques in the state following oral instructions from authorities.
The bench, also comprising Justice Atarup Banerjee, said that the petitioner could not produce any written order in this regard.
Advocate General Surojit Nath Mitra told the court that there was no such order issued by the authorities.
It was also stated that there was no meeting between imams of mosques and the police authorities in this regard as alleged by the petitioner.
