BSES rolls out multi-platform drive to push rooftop solar across Delhi

Power distribution company BSES has launched a city-wide multi-platform awareness campaign to promote rooftop solar adoption and encourage consumers to take advantage of Government-backed renewable energy schemes.
The campaign aims to accelerate the uptake of clean energy solutions by highlighting the benefits of installing rooftop solar systems under the Government of India’s PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and the Delhi Solar Policy.
As part of the outreach initiative, BSES has rolled out radio jingles across leading FM stations in Delhi, targeting a broad audience across the National Capital Region. The company has also placed advertisements at key Delhi Metro stations to maximize visibility among daily commuters. In addition, social media platforms are being used to educate consumers about rooftop solar technology, available subsidies, and the process of installation.
According to BSES, rooftop solar systems offer substantial financial benefits to consumers. Households can avail themselves of central Government subsidies under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, incentives provided through the Delhi Solar Policy, and flexible financing options. These benefits can significantly reduce electricity expenses, with some consumers potentially achieving zero electricity bills depending on their energy consumption and system capacity.
The company noted that surplus electricity generated through rooftop solar installations can be exported to the power grid under the net metering mechanism, allowing consumers to earn additional savings. Over the lifespan of a solar system, users can save several lakh rupees while reducing their dependence on conventional energy sources.
BSES said the campaign is designed to encourage households, residential welfare associations, commercial establishments, and institutions to participate in Delhi’s transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy. The utility emphasized that streamlined procedures, Government incentives, and dedicated consumer support have made rooftop solar adoption more accessible than ever.
The initiative builds on BSES’s ongoing efforts to promote renewable energy across its distribution areas. The company has facilitated more than 13,600 rooftop solar connections, with a cumulative installed capacity of nearly 260 MWp across South, West, East, and Central Delhi.
With the latest campaign, BSES hopes to further strengthen consumer awareness and accelerate the adoption of rooftop solar solutions, contributing to Delhi’s broader sustainability and clean energy goals.
