BRS MLCs arrested for alleged derogatory remarks against Telangana Speaker

Saifabad police have registered a case against two Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Members of the Legislative Council, T Madhusudhan and N Naveen Kumar Reddy, for allegedly making derogatory and abusive remarks against Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.

Police arrested the two MLCs on Tuesday, September 8, following a complaint filed by Pollepalli Venkatesham, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Speaker.

According to the FIR, Madhusudhan and Naveen Kumar Reddy, along with their political associates, gathered in the security area of the Telangana Legislative Assembly premises at around 9.30 am.

The complaint alleges that the two MLCs verbally attacked the Speaker in the presence of journalists, electronic media personnel, Assembly staff and security personnel.

Madhusudhan allegedly used abusive and derogatory language against the Speaker, while Naveen Kumar Reddy allegedly questioned who had authorised the Speaker to issue orders, according to the FIR.

The complainant alleged that the remarks were made in an area visible to the public and were intended to humiliate and demean the Speaker. The FIR also cites video recordings and media broadcasts of the incident.

Saifabad police registered Crime No. 364 of 2026 under Section 152 read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, including Sections 3(1)(r), 3(2)(va) and 3(2)(vii), have also been invoked.

Saifabad Inspector K Nageswara Rao registered the case and began the investigation.

As part of the probe, police are expected to examine available video footage and record statements from witnesses to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged remarks.
