BRS alleges masked men attacked KTR’s staff inside Saifabad police station, demands judicial probe

The BRS has alleged that masked men attacked KT Rama Rao's PRO and PA inside the Saifabad police station while they were being questioned, accusing the police of being complicit in the incident. The party has demanded a judicial inquiry, preservation of CCTV footage and action against those responsible.

Police had registered cases against Mahesh and Mahender Reddy under Sections 132, 352 and 351(2), read with 3(5), of the BNS based on a complaint alleging that they obstructed officials performing their duties after BRS legislators were prevented from entering the Assembly premises through Gate No. 3 on September 7. The two were summoned for questioning on Monday.

While the questioning was in progress, around 15-20 masked men allegedly entered the police station premises at about 6.30 pm and tried to attack the two men. Members of the BRS legal team who were present at the station intervened and came to their rescue, following which the attackers fled.

Speaking to the media, the BRS legal team alleged that the attack took place in the presence of Saifabad police personnel. CCTV cameras at a nearby hotel reportedly captured visuals of the masked men entering the police station.

BRS working president KT Rama Rao, in a post on X, described the incident as extremely heinous and alleged that it was part of a political vendetta against BRS leaders. He questioned whether the attackers were Congress workers or policemen in plain clothes wearing masks.

Rama Rao held Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who also holds the Home portfolio, responsible for the incident and sought an immediate response from him. He also demanded an inquiry by a sitting judge into the alleged attack.

Rama Rao said the High Court had directed that no action be taken against Mahesh and Mahender Reddy until further orders. He alleged that the incident was an attempt to intimidate the two despite the court's directions.

He demanded that CCTV footage from both inside and outside the police station be preserved, and that the attackers be identified and punished. He also sought security and medical treatment for his injured staffers.

BRSLP deputy leader T Harish Rao alleged that the masked men could have been Task Force police personnel, claiming they attempted to attack the two inside the interrogation room.

He accused the government of using the police station to carry out the attack and demanded that the CCTV footage be made public and an FIR registered against those involved.

Harish Rao described the alleged attack inside the police station as evidence of a complete failure of law and order in the state under the Congress government.  (with inputs from media organisations)
