BRS moves adjournment motion over police action, threats against KCR

The BRS on Tuesday, September 9, moved an adjournment motion in the Telangana Assembly over what it described as police overreach and political intimidation by the ruling Congress.

BRS working president KT Rama Rao and other party MLAs sought a discussion on three issues — the alleged police mistreatment of BRS women MLAs, a Congress rally held near former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s residence at Erravalli and remarks by a Congress MLA expressing a desire for KCR’s death.

The BRS said the three issues pointed to a deteriorating law-and-order situation in the state.

In its statement, the party accused the Congress of using the police to intimidate political opponents. It described the rally near KCR’s Erravalli residence as an attempt to intimidate the BRS leader, who is also the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly.

The party also criticised the Congress MLA’s remarks against KCR, saying such statements reflected the political atmosphere in the state and should not go unchecked.

The motion comes amid heightened tensions between the Congress and BRS during the ongoing Assembly session. Several BRS leaders have faced police cases in recent days, while protests have also taken place outside the Assembly and security has been tightened around KCR’s residence.

Through the adjournment motion, the BRS has sought to bring these developments before the Assembly for discussion.
