Brewers Association welcomes UP Excise Policy

The Brewers Association of India (BAI) has welcomed the progressive and well-balanced approach adopted by the Government of Uttar Pradesh in its Excise Policy for FY 2026-27.
The policy brings more transparency in the licensing and approvals process, and adds clarity across licensing, distribution and taxation while reinforcing a stable and growth-oriented environment for the beer industry.
"The recently announced excise policy of Uttar Pradesh is a well-calibrated optimisation of the state's revenue and public health goals. While there has been a marginal hike in the consumer prices of hard liquor, beverages with low alcohol content like beer have been spared. This is a balanced approach which will not disrupt the liquor industry," said Vinod Giri, Director General, BAI.
To encourage consumers' shift towards milder forms of alcohol in the state, the policy envisages further expansion of low alcoholic beverages licenses (selling beer, wine, RTDs), for retail shops and on-trade, to all municipal corporation areas.
