BMW India launches first locally produced i5 LWB

BMW India has launched the first-ever i5 Long Wheelbase (LWB), marking a significant step in the German automaker’s local electrification strategy.

The sedan is BMW’s first locally-produced electric model and only its second electric car to be manufactured in India, rolling off the line at BMW Group Plant Chennai, with deliveries starting immediately.

The i5 LWB is priced at Rs 79.6 lakh (ex-showroom), with BMW India Financial Services offering EMIs starting at Rs 79,999 per month and a 55 per cent guaranteed buyback after four years. An exclusive First Edition, limited to 99 units, sold out entirely before the official launch.

Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO, BMW Group India, called the launch a defining statement of the company’s India strategy, combining electrification with long-wheelbase luxury.

With local manufacturing now anchoring its EV push, BMW is betting that Indian buyers are ready to pay a premium for chauffeur-driven electric luxury.
