BJP worker beaten to death in Dehradun; 12 named in FIR, accused properties demolished

A BJP worker was allegedly beaten to death in Uttarakhand's Dehradun district following a dispute that reportedly began over irrigation water. The incident took place in Bairagiwala village and has triggered tension in the area, prompting heavy police deployment and administrative action.
According to police, 44-year-old Vinod, a local BJP functionary, got into an argument with a neighbour over watering a nearby field.
Authorities allege that shortly afterward, a large group armed with sticks, hammers, wooden planks, and other weapons attacked Vinod's home. Vinod suffered fatal head injuries during the assault, while three of his family members were seriously injured and hospitalized.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim's family, police have registered a case against 12 named individuals and several unidentified persons on charges including murder and rioting.
Senior police officials have assured strict action against those involved and stated that additional forces have been deployed to maintain law and order in the village.
Following the incident, authorities demolished what they described as illegal structures linked to some of the accused. The violence also led to protests and vandalism in the area, further increasing tensions. Officials are continuing their investigation while urging residents to maintain peace and cooperate with law enforcement.
