Bihar CM faces criticism from RJD for 'revealing identity' of girl molested in Jamui

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary faced criticism from the opposition RJD for allegedly revealing the identity of a minor girl who was molested in Jamui district a few days ago.

The girl, accompanied by her family, met Choudhary on Thursday. Officials said the chief minister assured them of speedy justice and promised that all those involved would face the strongest possible punishment within a month through a speedy trial.

Choudhary posted a photograph of himself with the girl and her family on X, but later deleted the post.

RJD national working president Tejashwi Yadav saved a screenshot of the post and shared it on X, accusing Choudhary of violating provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

A teenage boy and girl returning from coaching classes in Jamui were allegedly stopped by a group of men on Saturday evening. The two were surrounded, questioned and allegedly assaulted and molested before being allowed to leave.

Yadav, who is also the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly and a former deputy chief minister, criticised Choudhary over the incident and called for action against him.

RJD MP Misa Bharti also shared the screenshot and urged the Bihar Police to register an FIR against the chief minister. She alleged that Choudhary had revealed the minor's identity while police were booking those who uploaded videos of the alleged molestation for violating her privacy.

Ruling NDA leaders were not immediately available for comment on the allegations.  (with inputs from PTI)
