Bengaluru Nurse chased, attacked with a machete by her husband

Panic gripped JP Nagar 3rd Phase, Bengaluru, on Thursday morning after a 26-year-old nurse was allegedly attacked by her estranged husband with a machete and acid. The attack occurred around 9:15 am as the victim, identified as Madhumitha, stepped out for breakfast near her workplace, a private clinic.
Her husband, Venkatesh, arrived on a bike carrying a knife, machete, and acid, and chased her into the basement parking area of Narayana Clinic, where he attacked her with the machete before throwing acid at her. The sudden assault sent onlookers and passersby fleeing for safety, while Madhumitha raised an alarm, prompting hospital staff and local residents to intervene.
She sustained severe injuries and is undergoing treatment in the ICU. Police said the couple had met through a dating app and married in Madurai in 2024, and had reportedly been living separately for some time — she at a PG in Bengaluru, he working at an oil company in Chennai.
A JP Nagar police team cordoned off the scene, collected forensic evidence, and seized the weapons used in the assault. Venkatesh has been taken into custody and is being questioned, with formal charges expected to follow.
