20-year-old engineering student killed in Beed hit-and-run, father injured

A 20-year-old engineering student was killed and her father seriously injured after an unidentified vehicle allegedly hit their motorcycle in Maharashtra's Beed district, police said on Monday.

The accident took place near Wadwani at around 9.30 pm on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Rohini Mahadev Naikwade, a resident of Devdi in Wadwani tehsil. She was pursuing an engineering course in Pune.

According to police, Rohini was travelling with her father from Devdi to Wadwani on a motorcycle on Saturday night. They were heading to Wadwani to catch a private bus to Pune when an unidentified vehicle allegedly collided with their motorcycle.

Both were injured in the crash. Rohini suffered critical injuries and died while being taken to the district hospital for treatment. Her father is undergoing treatment at a private hospital, police said.

Police said efforts were being made to identify the vehicle involved in the collision and establish the circumstances that led to the accident.  (with inputs from PTI)
