Two Assam policemen shot dead allegedly by colleague at border outpost

Two policemen were allegedly shot dead by a colleague at a newly established inter-state border outpost in Assam's Kamrup district on Thursday, officials said.

The incident took place in the early hours at the Gamerimura border outpost under Boko police station along the Assam-Meghalaya border, they said.

The accused constable, Chiranjiv Choudhury, allegedly opened fire from his AK-47 rifle, killing two colleagues on the spot, a senior police officer said.

The deceased were identified as Indrajit Bora, the in-charge of the Gamerimura outpost, and constable Fajrul Ali.

On receiving information about the firing, Boko police station Officer-in-Charge Munna Pachani rushed to the outpost with a police team.

“The accused has been detained and interrogation is underway. The motive behind the incident is yet to be ascertained,” Pachani said.

Police are questioning Choudhury to determine the circumstances leading to the firing and the motive behind the alleged attack. Further investigation is underway.
