AISA president Neha Bora reaches UP's Raebareli as part of student-youth campaign
All India Students' Association (AISA) president Neha Bora reached Raebareli on Thursday as part of the organisation's campaign to highlight issues faced by students and young people in Uttar Pradesh.
Bora said the campaign aims to amplify the voices of students struggling for basic facilities such as benches and laboratories in schools, scholarships and hostels in universities, and support those preparing for competitive examinations. "We started this journey from Prayagraj and have travelled through Varanasi, Azamgarh, Gorakhpur, Faizabad and Lucknow, and today we are in Raebareli," she said.
Bora said students and youth across the state were engaged in different struggles and the organisation wanted to stand with them and strengthen their voices.
She said the education and employment systems should prioritise students and youth instead of focusing on privatisation. "If the education and employment system does not keep students and youth at its centre and instead puts privatisation at the centre, that system will be changed," she said.
The student leader said those determining the education system would have to be replaced.
The Mahajutan Yatra was launched at Allahabad University on August 9 and has since travelled through different districts. Throughout the campaign, the student outfit has raised issues of unemployment, inflation, social justice and irregularities in government recruitment exams and appointments.
AISA is a Left-wing student organisation.
Bora emerged as a prominent face of the student agitation at Jantar Mantar earlier this year, where she undertook a 23-day hunger strike over examination irregularities and sought then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation.
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) led the protest. After Pradhan's resignation, the CJP soon called off its 36-day protest at Jantar Mantar over the NEET issue, saying the government has accepted all its demands.
