AIMIM expels MLC Mirza Rahmath Baig over controversial video, sparks questions

AIMIM MLC Mirza Rahmath Baig has been expelled from the party over a controversial video. The party announced the decision late on Saturday night. His expulsion took immediate effect.
AIMIM also asked Baig to resign as a Member of the Legislative Council. It directed him to submit his resignation to the Chairperson of the Telangana Legislative Council. The action comes amid a complaint reportedly filed by Baig with the cybercrime police.
In the complaint, Baig alleged that some people were blackmailing him. He said they were demanding a large amount of money. He also alleged that the people were threatening to release a purported deepfake video involving him.
Police have not disclosed the contents of the video. They have also not released the full details of Baig's complaint.
The issue gained attention on social media after AIMIM announced Baig's expulsion. Several unverified claims about the video also surfaced online. Some social media users claimed that it showed Baig in an intimate situation. There is no official confirmation of these claims.
The controversy has also drawn reactions from political opponents of AIMIM. Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader and Hyderabad Youth Courage president Salman Khan questioned the reasons for Baig's expulsion. Khan alleged that an AIMIM MLA and a former corporator were also linked to the controversy. He asked AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi to explain the reasons for Baig's expulsion.
BJYM leader Nitin Nandkar also released a video questioning the party's decision. He demanded that AIMIM disclose why action was taken against the MLC.
With neither the police nor AIMIM revealing details of the video, questions over the matter continued on social media.
