Ahmedabad gears up for 149th Jagannath Rath Yatra

Preparations for the 149th edition of the annual Jagannath Rath Yatra have gathered momentum at the historic Jagannath Temple in Jamalpur ahead of the grand procession scheduled for July 16. Temple authorities, artisans and the administration have intensified efforts to ensure the smooth conduct of one of Gujarat’s most significant religious events.
Extensive renovation and decoration work is underway on the three ceremonial chariots that will carry Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra through the city. This year, the chariots have been fitted with newly crafted wooden wheels in keeping with long-standing traditions. Craftsmen are also repainting and decorating the chariots, while devotees have performed rituals before the installation of the new wheels.
Police and temple authorities have also begun coordinating security arrangements, traffic management and facilities for the large number of pilgrims expected to attend the annual procession.
