AAP dominates Punjab Civic Polls 2026, leads across state

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has emerged as the dominant force in the Punjab civic body elections 2026, leading across multiple municipal corporations, councils, and nagar panchayats as counting continues across the state.
Early trends show Aam Aadmi Party securing a strong lead in several key urban regions, including Mohali, Ludhiana, Bathinda, and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s constituency Dhuri, where the party registered a sweeping performance.
The Congress party remains a distant second, while the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are trailing in most regions. Independent candidates have also managed to secure a notable number of seats in several local bodies.
In Mohali, AAP has taken an early lead, while in Ludhiana district it continues to strengthen its position across multiple municipal councils. The party also performed strongly in Bathinda, winning several wards in what is considered a traditional SAD stronghold.
In Dhuri, AAP secured a decisive mandate, reinforcing its support base in Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s constituency. Meanwhile, Congress and SAD managed limited gains in select pockets, including Hoshiarpur and Samrala.
According to updated figures, AAP is comfortably ahead in overall seat tally, while opposition parties continue to struggle to match its urban support base. The civic elections are being viewed as an important political test ahead of future state-level contests in Punjab.
Election authorities reported a voter turnout of 63.94%, with counting held across 102 civic bodies including municipal corporations, councils, and nagar panchayats.
