9 Dead, 20 rescued in Kolkata Warehouse Collapse; CM orders suspension of all TMC-era construction projects till July 31

At least 9 people were killed and 20 others rescued after a three-storey under-construction warehouse collapsed in Kolkata’s Taratala area, officials said on Wednesday. Several others are still feared trapped under the debris as rescue operations continue.
The incident occurred during construction work when a portion of the structure suddenly gave way, bringing down heavy concrete slabs and iron beams. Emergency teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), fire services, Kolkata Police, and the Indian Army, were deployed for search and rescue operations.
Officials said those rescued were rushed to nearby hospitals, where a few remain in critical condition. The exact number of people still trapped is yet to be confirmed as rescue efforts continue amid heavy debris removal work.
Following the tragedy, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari visited the site and ordered a statewide suspension of all under-construction commercial projects across Kolkata until July 31. The directive also includes a comprehensive safety audit of ongoing construction works to prevent similar incidents.

Authorities said that five people have been arrested in connection with the warehouse collapse at Transport Depot Road in west Kolkata, CM Suvendu Adhikari asserted that no one will be spared.
