7 Naxals held in Jharkhand

Seven Naxals, including an area commander of the banned outfit PLFI, were arrested in Jharkhand’s Khunti district on Sunday, police said.

People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI) area commander Shravan Das was injured in a gunfight with the police when he allegedly snatched a firearm and opened fire on the law enforcers in a forest, where he had led them on the pretext of unearthing a hidden cache of arms and ammunition. He was subsequently taken to RIMS, Ranchi for treatment.

The gunfight took place in Tilmi forest in Jariyagarh police station area early this morning.

Acting on a tip-off, Das and his associates were nabbed in Jariyagarh area on Saturday night and two firearms were seized from their possession, a senior officer said.
