2 Men electrocuted while trying to save each other during heavy rain in Surat

A rescue attempt turned tragic in Gujarat's Surat after two men were electrocuted while trying to save each other during heavy rainfall in the Rander area. The incident occurred after one of the victims reportedly came in contact with a live electric wire submerged in rainwater, triggering a fatal chain of events.
According to police, the first victim, identified as Salman Irshad Khalifa, suffered an electric shock after stepping into a waterlogged stretch. Seeing him collapse, another man rushed to help but was also electrocuted after coming into contact with the same live current. Both men died on the spot despite rescue efforts.
The tragic incident took place amid heavy monsoon showers that caused waterlogging in several parts of Surat. Authorities reached the spot, shifted the bodies for post-mortem, and launched an investigation to determine how the electric current spread into the flooded area.
The incident has once again raised concerns over public safety during the monsoon, particularly the risks posed by exposed electrical infrastructure in waterlogged areas. Officials have urged residents to avoid flooded streets and stay away from electric poles, wires, and other power installations during heavy rains.
