2 Killed and several injured as bus overturns in Hooghly

At least 2 people were killed and several others injured after a passenger bus overturned in West Bengal’s Hooghly district on Monday, triggering protests by local residents over the poor condition of roads in the area.
According to officials, the bus lost control and overturned while travelling through a damaged stretch of road. Emergency services rushed to the spot and shifted the injured passengers to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The accident sparked anger among local residents, who blocked roads and staged demonstrations, alleging that repeated complaints about the deteriorating road condition had gone unaddressed by authorities.
Protesters claimed that the stretch had witnessed multiple accidents in the past and demanded immediate repairs, improved road safety measures, and accountability from the administration.
Police and district officials reached the site to bring the situation under control and assured residents that necessary action would be taken. An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Authorities are also assessing the condition of the injured passengers, while efforts are underway to restore normal traffic movement in the area.
