18 former IAS, IPS officers, lawyers, leaders from various parties join Uttar Pradesh Congress
The Congress on Wednesday inducted 18 people from the administrative, political and social spheres into the party. The party claimed that growing public dissatisfaction with the BJP-led government is drawing experienced professionals towards the party, now in opposition.
The induction took place in the presence of AICC chairman of Media and Publicity Department Pawan Khera, Uttar Pradesh Congress in-charge Rajendra Pal Gautam, Congress OBC Department chairman Anil Jaihind and Lok Sabha MP Rakesh Rathore.
Among those who joined the Congress included Dr Anoop Kumar Ambedkar, who has served as the Bahujan Samaj Party's in-charge for several states; Supreme Court advocates Mayank Yadav and Shrey Yadav; former Uttar Pradesh PCS officer Sunil Kumar Verma; former Punjab cadre IAS officer Chaudhary Khushi Ram; former Uttar Pradesh cadre IPS officer and Indian Political Justice Party chief B P Ashok; and farmer leader Rohit Jakhar, who was active during the farmers' agitation.
Retired Kerala cadre DGP Sudesh Kumar; former Aam Aadmi Party social media in-charge and former BSP Lok Sabha candidate Waqar Chaudhary; former RTA officer Vikrant Gautam; Sachin of the Desh Bachao Andolan; Indian Political Justice Party national treasurer Kishan Swaroop; R K Massey; Rajendra Prasad Vishabh; Amit Kumar; Rashtriya Lok Dal national secretary Savitri Gautam; Arun Banswal; and Samaj Vikas Kranti Party chief Ashok Singh, among others, also joined the Congress.
Welcoming the new entrants into the party, Gautam launched a sharp attack on the Narendra Modi-led government, saying that every section of society now felt "betrayed" by the BJP government.
He claimed that barring a handful of influential industrialists, the BJP had weakened every section of society through its policies.
Gautam said that at a time when various communities are looking for an alternative political voice, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has emerged as a leader representing the concerns of all sections of society, particularly the youth and the marginalised.
Gautam said the new members were inspired by Gandhi's vision, commitment and political approach, which prompted them to join the Congress.
Anil Jaihind claimed that while political parties were being weakened under pressure from the Modi government, public support was steadily shifting towards the Congress.
He asserted that the intelligentsia as well as ordinary citizens were increasingly placing their trust in the party.
