15 killed, 42 injured as Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv region

Russian missile and drone strikes on Ukraine's capital region overnight killed at least 15 people and injured 42 others, Ukrainian authorities claimed on Wednesday, Aug 5th.

14 people were killed and 27 injured across the wider Kyiv region, where the strikes sparked fires at warehouses, logistics facilities and other commercial sites in the Brovary, Bucha and Fastiv districts, Ukraine's State Emergency Service mentioned.

In Kyiv, one person was killed and 15 others were injured. Emergency crews extinguished fires caused by the attacks in the Obolonskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Holosiivskyi and Desnianskyi districts, according to the Kyiv City Military Administration.

The latest barrage is part of a series of large-scale Russian missile and drone attacks that have intensified in recent months. Ukraine has relied on US-made Patriot air defence systems to intercept ballistic missiles, but officials say limited supplies of interceptor missiles have made it increasingly difficult to repel large-scale attacks.

Serhii Beskrestnov, an adviser to the Ukrainian president on defence technology development, said Russia was increasingly targeting civilian infrastructure, including warehouses, logistics hubs and commercial facilities.
