The family of 52-year-old V Vijaya has questioned the police account of how she died at Thirumayilai MRTS station, saying the opening through which she allegedly fell appeared too narrow. Railway police are treating the case as an unnatural death while investigating the circumstances.

Vijaya travelled with her daughter on October 8 and went towards an upper floor after complaining of severe stomach pain. She was reported missing when she did not return. Four days later, a foul smell led station staff to alert railway police, who found her body in an unused ground-floor room, The News Minute reported.

Police said she entered a disused room and fell through an opening. Reports differed on the opening’s size and the height of the fall. The family said she had been walking towards a different staircase and submitted a complaint. Postmortem findings and the Section 194 BNSS case have been reported, but official site measurements, CCTV and the final investigative conclusion remain unchecked.
