A youth was allegedly beaten to death over a love affair in Mahokhar village in Dehat Kotwali area of Banda district.
Superintendent of Police Abhinandan said on Friday that at around 12 o'clock on Thursday night, Dial 112 PRV received information that a thief had been caught and beaten in Mahokhar village. When the police reached the spot, the condition of the youth was critical and he was immediately taken to the district hospital, where he died during treatment.
The district police chief said that during investigation on Friday morning, it was found that the youth, Nandkishore Verma (24), had an illicit relationship with a woman from the village for the last two years. He said on the woman’s phone call, Nandkishore went to her house on Thursday night, where the woman’s husband and brother-in-law and two others allegedly thrashed him to death.
The SP said that an FIR had been lodged against four people in this connection, on the basis of which the woman’s husband and her brother-in-law were taken into custody and were being interrogated.
The body of the youth was sent for autopsy.
