Those who have not enrolled themselves in the voters list still had chance to get their names registered as the exercise would go till ten days before the last date for nomination in the coming Parliament elections.
``The revised voters list will be published on January 31 and anyone could check it through website or through SMS whether their names figured in it or not and get it corrected. For those who still not applied for it can even now fill Form 6 and apply till 10 days prior to last date for nomination”, informed deputy commissioner, election commission of India, Vinod Zutshi here on Mondayevening.
Zutshi, who along with chief electoral officer, Umesh Sinha, made two days review of on-going election exercise in the state disclosed here during a press conference that those who could not check their status on-line or through any other electronic mode could still made it by making a call to `helpline’ which will be opened in all the districts once the voters list will be published. He said that list will be provided to all the national and state level political parties. He claimed that to avert the chances of names being deleted after voter-list will be published, they made mandatory to take consent of district election officer after filing Form 7 in this regard.
Zutshi further claimed that all the political parties during discussion with him raised problems of having inadequate information about model code of conduct, expenditure bills, paid news, campaign vehicles, poling agents, criteria to put booths (tables of parties)outside polling centers etc so we assured them to provide full details regarding the above and that they would also hold workshop in each district. He claimed to check misuse of money power they will adopt same steps which they had taken recently during Assembly elections like formation static vigilance teams, mobile (flying)squads etc.
Disclosing about law and order, Zutshi said that he has held discussions with ADG (law and order) and other senior officers besides all the district magistrates and gave them necessary directions. He claimed to have asked them to prepare requirement of force as per the sensitivity of the polling centre and measures taken to ensure free and fair elections. About transfer of officers, Zutshi said they gave general directions of shifting all the officers related to polling who had completed three years of posting or who were posted in home district. He claimed that compliance report regarding the above orders should be sent to the Election Commission. About further action, he said that they will only enjoy that power once the code of conduct came into force after announcement of election dates. When asked whether the Commission would cover `Elephants’ as done during last Assembly elections, he said that they would discuss this once any complaint in this regard will be made after imposition of model code of conduct.
