Yogi to contest assembly poll

Setting all speculations to rest, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that he would contest the assembly polls in the state early next year but did not reveal the constituency from where he wanted to contest the election.

"In Bharatiya Janata Party, everything about elections and candidature is decided by the party's parliamentary board. Hence, they will decide from where I will contest the assembly polls," Yogi said and added that he had never shied away from elections and was ready to contest the assembly polls.

This statement of the chief minister came against the backdrop of the announcement of Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav that he would not contest the assembly polls this time.

Yogi Adityanath was elected to the UP Legislative Council after he was appointed chief minister of UP in 2017.

Several assembly constituencies have been kept reserved for Yogi Adityanath in the coming 2022 assembly polls. But there is speculation that he will either contest from Gorakhpur or from Ayodhya. Some BJP leaders have proposed that Yogi should contest from Lucknow East constituency.

The chief minister said that the Purvanchal Expressway would be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi this month.

"The prime minister has watched the presentation of the Purvanchal Expressway and has given his nod for its inauguration," he said, adding that over six million new jobs would be generated in Purvanchal alone after the start of this expressway.

Talking about his government's achievement, the chief minister said UP got recognition as the most sought-after destination for investment because of the improvement in the law and order situation.
