Inaugurating development schemes in Gorakhpur on Tuesday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the face of the city has changed because of new infrastructure projects.
“There was a time when people used to feel happy when a road worth Rs 5-10 lakh was built, but now development projects worth thousands of crores of rupees are implemented simultaneously. It shows our potential,” Yogi said while speaking at a function where foundation stones were laid for Khorabar Township and Medicity besides 172 development projects worth Rs 3,838 crore.
Extending best wishes on Vasantik Navratri, the chief minister said Gorakhpur is emerging as a ‘New Gorakhpur’. “The airport is expanding here and the number of flights will increase. Projects like AIIMS, fertiliser factory, and six-lane ring road around the city will speed up development,” Yogi said.
“Ramgarhtal and the zoo have added sheen to the city’s grandeur,” the CM said, adding investment proposals worth thousands of crores of rupees have come for Gorakhpur in the Global Investors’ Summit held recently.
“New hotels are coming up here, big hospitals are being built, new industries are coming up, and new townships are coming up. It is necessary to open a skill development centre so that youths can get employment. If the youths get employment here, the money of Gorakhpur will be spent in Gorakhpur only, which will give a fillip to the economy,” the CM said.
Yogi said that the railway station in New Gorakhpur is also going to be developed like the airport. “The waiting area and canteen at the railway station will also be as good as at the airport,” he said.
“Today, the Gorakhpur region has become a big centre for imparting modern education to the youth. There are four universities here at present. In the coming days, an agricultural university will also be opened in Kushinagar,” Yogi said.
The chief minister also planted saplings after performing ‘bhoomi pujan’ at the launch of GDA’s Khorabar Township and Medicity. Prior to this, the CM also inspected the stalls set up by the GDA. Before the launch of the schemes, Yogi distributed motorised tricycles to 71 ‘Divyangjans’.
