Showing commitment of the Uttar Pradesh government towards creation of a proper environment for investments, and generating employment opportunities, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday virtually inaugurated Hindustan Unilever's (HUL) new factory and a distribution centre at Sumerpur (Hamirpur).
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that the inauguration of this ultra-modern factory in Sumerpur marks the beginning of a prosperous and glorious future of the Bundelkhand region. “Through investments, our motive is not only realisation of PM Narendra Modi’s goal of making India a $5-trillion economy but also creation of numerous employment opportunities for the youth.
The chief minister expressed gratitude to the entire team of HUL and said that the dedication with which they have worked for the development of Bundelkhand even under Covid-induced restrictions is commendable and inspirational for everyone.
“The fact that HUL chose to invest in Bundelkhand will certainly inspire others to follow,” he said.
Yogi also lauded HUL for strengthening the state government’s Mission Shakti programme by providing training and job opportunities to women and even people with disabilities at the local level, thus empowering them.
Exuding confidence about the development of the region, Yogi said when given opportunities, the talented youth prove their capabilities efficiently. Congratulating the people of Bundelkhand, the chief minister said that HUL has planned a total investment of Rs 700 crore in Sumerpur, which includes a spray-dried detergent powder plant and distribution centre, which was inaugurated today.
“Due to the PM’s vision, Bundelkhand is turning into a heaven on earth with growing possibilities,” the CM said.
Furthermore, Yogi said that Uttar Pradesh and HUL’s long-standing commitment and decades-long relations will promote the progress of Bundelkhand by ensuring the prosperity of farmers, women and youth of the region.
Maintaining that the Bundelkhand Expressway will enable the region to scale new heights in terms of development, the CM said industrial clusters will be developed to boost the economic activities in the region and as the country celebrates ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsava’, the region is also inching closer towards tiding over water scarcity permanently through schemes like ‘Har Ghar Jal’.
The two important nodes of the Defence Corridor — Jhansi and Chitrakoot — will also serve in making the region prosperous. “Bharat Dynamics Ltd has also commenced setting up of its unit in Jhansi while a land bank has been established in Chitrakoot,” the CM said.
Besides the manufacturing unit, HUL has set up a fully automated distribution centre, the first of its kind in South Asia. This distribution centre is also equipped with the most modern automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) to deliver goods with minimum retrieval time. This spray-dried factory will be HUL’s first gender-balanced factory in South Asia where a large number of women employees were hired under the Uttar Pradesh Government’s Mission Shakti.
