With the opposition parties intensifying their demand of postponement of NEET and JEE entrance examinations, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that his government supported conducting these tests on schedule.
“The UP government organised BEd entrance exam on August 9, wherein about five lakh aspirants appeared but there was no problem due to the spread of (coronavirus) infection. The government is committed to ensuring all protection to students appearing in the examination,” Yogi said in a statement issued here on Friday.
The chief minister said that UP Public Service Commission had also organised exams without any problem in the recent past and there was no report of any infection spread.
The opposition parties, particularly Congress and Samajwadi Party, have been protesting the conducting of JEE and NEET and demanding its postponement in view of the coronavirus pandemic.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav wrote an open letter opposing the Centre’s decision to hold these tests, saying that the Bharatiya Janata Party government at the Centre was unnecessarily putting the students’ health at risk. He even asked as to who would be responsible if students contracted the infection.
Meanwhile, the UP Congress held a state-wide protest demanding postponement of these entrance examinations.
UPCC chief Ajay Kumar Lallu said that as the Yogi government had failed to control coronavirus spread, it was not prudent to hold any examination at this time.
While the NEET is scheduled to be held on September 13, engineering entrance exam JEE Main has been planned from September 1 to 6.
