Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath accused the opposition for raking up inflation and rise in prices of petro products only to malign the Union government even as inflation was under control for the last four years.
“It is not such a big issue as projected by the opposition. Ever since Modi became the Prime Minister, inflation has been under control due to strategic policies of the Central government,” he said.
The CM said that the Centre was aware of the rising price of petro products and the issue was under consideration at the highest level in the government.
“The opposition parties are short of ideas and hence they were trying to create a mountain out of a mole hill aiming to defame the government on petroleum price hike. Congress president Rahul Gandhi was ussing immature statements to attack the BJP government,” he said.
When asked if the UP government could reduce Value Added Tax (VAT) on petro-products to bring down prices, the CM said that the state government was aware of the situation and will do the needful.
When Yogi’s attention was drawn to the Prime Minister’s public meeting in Baghpat a day before polling for Kairana lok Sabha bypoll, he said, “The opposition was trying to create unnecessary controversy. The people of the area are happy that the PM would be inaugurating an eight-lane expressway connecting three districts of UP with Delhi.”
Meanwhile, Yogi will honour meritorious students of UP Board examinations in lucknow on May 29.
Officials said that the government will honour 10 students each of High School and intermediate classes from 75 districts which add up to 1660 students and a function will be held at lohia law University auditorium in lucknow.
Earlier, Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya announced that the government would connect pucca roads of villages of meritorious students. The Samajwadi Party too has announced to honour meritorious students by gifting them a laptop each. SP sources said that 11 meritorious students would be selected in each of the 75 districts for laptop distribution.
In 2012, thee SP distributed laptops to all students passing Intermediate exams as per their poll promise but from 2013, they gave laptops to meritorious students only.
Taking a cue from the SP, the BJP in its manifesto for 2017 Assembly elections had promised to give laptops to the students.
