Accusing the previous governments of criminalising politics and politicising crime, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said that in the past five and a half years, Uttar Pradesh had become free of riots and crime.
Launching 243 development projects worth Rs 145 crore in Saharanpur, the chief minister said, “Security is top priority for us. Politics under those in power prior to the Bharatiya Janata Party regime had fallen victim to ‘parivarwad’ and corruption. A state where ‘hooliganism’ was at its peak, people were migrating and communal clashes took place every 3-4 days, has become riot-free today.”
Earlier, the lives of youth, farmers, businessmen and entrepreneurs were played with as these governments criminalised politics and also committed the sin of politicising criminals, he added.
The chief minister added that during the previous regimes, crime was so rampant that no one wanted to visit Uttar Pradesh, and those who had made investments in the state were migrating. “Instances like Kairana and Kandhla used to occur back then, the chief minister remarked, adding that the investors were now returning to UP with the restoration of law and order in the state.
He said criminals were currently fleeing from UP and the government was working to eradicate all forms of crime, criminals and corruption.
During the event, the chief minister watched a short film on the works of the Urban Development and Industrial Development departments and handed over keys, cheques and acceptance certificates to the beneficiaries of various schemes.
Addressing a gathering of intellectuals, the chief minister said, “Saharanpur was referred to as a ‘seemant zila’ (border district) as it connected to the border with Uttarakhand on one side and had Haryana on the other. He said the woodcraft of Saharanpur had received global recognition and the district had limitless potential that had to be realised.
The chief minister said that while there was no alternative to growth, people opted for the Bharatiya Janata Party government and its leaders in UP for security and development.
“Now, people are not migrating, but by accomplishing the objective of ease of doing business, Uttar Pradesh is drawing in investments from around the globe,” Yogi said.
The chief minister said that before the assembly elections, the foundation stone of Maa Shakumbhari Devi University was laid in Saharanpur and today its grand building was being built. “The youths of the district will have access to a university by next year,” he added.

The chief minister said road connectivity had improved greatly recently. He pointed out that before 2017, it took two hours to go from Saharanpur to Muzaffarnagar and Saharanpur to Shamli and Dehradun route was in poor shape. “Rs 753 crore was spent on improving roads from Saharanpur to Muzaffarnagar. Instead of taking two hours to travel this distance, it now takes 45 minutes,” he added.
The chief minister went on to say that the Saharanpur to Dehradun route, being constructed at the cost of about Rs 1200 crore, would be one of the best routes in the country. He said the Har Ghar Nal Yojana was being implemented in Saharanpur as per the vision of the prime minister.
Informing the gathering that appointment letters were given to 1,354 nurses in Lucknow on Sunday morning, the chief minister said, “It is heartening that now participants from all 75 districts are getting government jobs. I also gave appointment letters to some daughters of Saharanpur in the morning.”
“Over five lakh youths were given government jobs in the state. In the last five years, one lakh youths were given employment through investment in Saharanpur. The ODOP products are being sold by Amazon and Flipkart. Saharanpur is being recognised at the global stage,” he added.

Yogi told the intellectuals that there were infinite possibilities of investment in every sector in the state. “The best industrial, biofuel, textile and other sectoral policies in the nation are found in Uttar Pradesh. The Global Investors’ Summit will be held from February 10 to 12, 2023. Saharanpur traders and business owners should also participate in the investment,” he added.
The chief minister also called upon the intellectuals to contribute to making UP a one-trillion-dollar economy.
