Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Mathura, Hema Malini, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured her to include the river Yamuna in the 'Clean Ganga Campaign', which is on the priority of the National Democratic Alliance Government's agenda.
"I had a discussion with the PM and he assured me to connect the issue of cleaning of the river Yamuna with the Clean Ganga Campaign," Malini said talking to newsmen in Mathura on Sunday. The departments related to the Clean Ganga Campaign have also been inter-linked so that the work may be completed more efficiently, she said, adding that the previous governments had done nothing to clean the river Yamuna and this time an earnest attempt is being made to clean up the Ganga as well as the Yamuna.
The actress-turned-politician said that she had apprised the PM of the condition of Yamuna and had also met the ministers and technical heads of the departments associated with the campaign. The BJP MP said that she was also addressing to the problems of power, potable water, roads, tubewell, sports and culture and had met Union ministers Nitin Gadkari and Uma Bharti in this regard.
"I know Mathura is beset with several problems and even lacks basic amenities. I will try to improve the living condition of the people here. As Yamuna is the life line of Mathura, the focus will be on this sacred river," she said.
