Dubbing Uttar Pradesh Governor as RSS worker Samajwadi Party national general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav said that Ram Naik was trying to destabilise a democratically elected government by issuing anti-Government statements.
“Governor is acting like a RSS worker. He attends functions of the communal organisation and is conspiring to destabilise the government by giving anti-government statements. What can you say about a Governor who even discloses personal discussion between him and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav,” Yadav told reporters here on Monday.
The scathing attack came a day after Governor had criticised law and order situation of the state during a meeting in Orai in Bundelkhand. He had said that Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav should take steps to improve law and order situation.
“Naik has failed to uphold the dignity of the Raj Bhawan by repeatedly commenting against the state government on different issues. Governors of other states never give statements against their own government. Governor of West Bengal, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand too were BJP leaders but have never acted against their own government,” Yadav said.
The SP leader demanded that UP governor should be appointed as Union minister in NDA Government. He can then give whatever statements he likes. “Presently the governor is acting like a Home Minister of the country and is questioning law and order situation in the state on a regular basis,” he said.
But the leader said that the party has no objection on Governor sending reports to the Centre. “This is his duty to do so. But he should not issue public statements against the government t,” he said.
Referring to the selective statements made by the governor Yadav said the Naik preferred to keep mum on Dadri issue because people involved in this incident were close to his heart but spoke at length about Kanpur. Why is this partisan attitudeIJ This raises questions about the intention of Governor,” he said.
Yadav clarified that the party was forced to give statement against the Governor as he, as a constitutional head of the state, had crossed all the limits.
But the SP leader defended the NDA government and said that it has no role on Governor’s behaviour.
However, the leader defended the UP government on the recent spurt of violence in around 10 districts during the Durga idol immersion.”UP government had initiated action to control the situation. These incidents are a conspiracy to defame the state government as well as to polarise the voters,” he said.
When asked if SP would approach the Prime Minister over the issue, Yadav said that party president Mulayam Singh Yadav is in Delhi, and he could meet PM on the matter.
The SP general secretary also refused to comment on the proposed expansion of the Akhilesh Yadav government in the state.” Expansion of the ministry is the prerogative of CM and he would be the better person to reply,” he further said.
When grilled further he said: “Expansion Ho bhi sakta hai aur nahi bhi ho sakta.”
